We live in a society where work is a massive part of our lives. We generally start work anywhere between the ages of sixteen into our twenties, and work up until we’re in our sixties- with retirement age being pushed back all the time. This means that if you’re not happy in your job, you’re never going to be happy in your life overall. And if your job isn’t well paid and you’re constantly struggling for money, it can cause a huge strain. If you’re fed up of scraping by, here’s some advice on what you could do next.
One of the most obvious ways to earn more money is with your full time job. If there’s any progression in your role, then working towards a promotion and better paid position could make things easier for you financially. If you’re stuck in a dead end role, or your job doesn’t offer great progression routes then changing careers completely could be the way to go. If you don’t already have a degree, studying for one could open the door to entry level graduate positions that would enable you to get better jobs and work your way up your desired career path. Best of all, you can study online, from home in a flexible way around your current job. That way, you earn while you learn instead of having to find a way to support yourself while you go through university in the traditional way. Have a think about the career you want, and which qualification would help you to get there. For example, if you wanted to work in crime enforcement, the courts or police service then an online criminal justice degree would be your first step.
An extra source of income that you can earn in your spare time is always a good idea- and something that all of us should be doing. There’s something for just about everyone can do, so have a think about your skills and interests. You could sign up to a freelancing site, and work on article writing, proofreading, PA work or design depending on your experience. You could start a blog or Youtube channel, later down the line these can earn you a significant amount of money if you work hard. You could start your own home business, buy things wholesale and sell for a profit. Start small and see what sells well, and go from these. These are all low risk and don’t require much money up front to get started.
Once you’re up and running, side hustles can gain you extra money and all be done around your regular job and commitments. In some cases, side hustles can be so successful that people are able to quit their day job and pursue their side venture full time! Having an additional way of earning money is a great security blanket, if anything happens with your regular job you always have a way of earning some extra money. This income could be used to pay debts, you could save it up or it could generally just make things a little easier each month.
