Answer: The city of Greeley has several recommendations for conserving water while watering the lawn.

The following are some technological enhancements that can help conserve water without leaving your lawn brown and flowers wilting, according to the Greeley Water and Sewer Department’s water blog:

  • Rain/freeze sensors — These stop irrigation systems when it’s raining and right after rain, and can stop irrigation when temperatures dip close to freezing. They can reduce water usage up to 35%.
  • Weather-based controllers — They adjust irrigation based on weather conditions and a variety of other climate and landscape factors. Rebates for the weather-based controllers are available in Greeley.
  • Sensor-based controllers — These rely on soil moisture sensors, which use soil moisture to decide when to water. Weather and sensor-based controllers can reduce water usage up to 70%.
  • Pressure regulation — These can help save by reducing unnecessary pressure in the water system. Greeley offers rebates for these.
